A while ago I tossed the idea into twitter of the need for a real-time game that would not only entertain those of us seated at our office spaces, but would also help fend off the email invasion that we incur on a daily basis. Sonny Gill enthusiastically joined me in providing twitter with some random banter about anti-email missiles or something or another (I can’t actually remember). Nevertheless the result of this has been a total waste of time on my part or simply the fact that I was so amused by this idea that I thought this one through. Here goes:
Inbox Fortress 2

A popular multiplayer game gone wrong. Now if departments ever get into fights over email — or even if you just want a skirmish or two — you can initiate a game of Inbox Fortress 2 where emails with different weapons and abilities can duke it out! Which email will be the last one standing … in the inbox.
Email Invaders

From the classic game, comes a twist. I’m not sure whether or not this would be ahead of its time or not — depends on whether you think spaceships came first or email did. I just hated the red spaceship that made those annoying sounds…
Missle Command – The Inbox Edition

Who else loved Missile Command? What a simple game. I’d love to have the chance to blast away emails before they hit the inbox. A new addition? Spam bombs.
Left 4 Email

A more recent game hit the market late 2008 — how about if we made an email version of it? Who’s up for an email massacre? With 4 of your colleagues in the office, get to the safe room (*ahem* firewall?) before wave after wave of emails overwhelm you all!
Tower Defense – Email Edition

Just imagine your favourite Tower Defense game (there are so many out here!). What if you could defeat the waves of emails that kept invading your inbox while having fun?!
Bonus Games
A Mozilla Thunderbird Shoot ‘em Up (Jets N’ Guns)

The people at the Mozilla Foundation or someone who can make an add-on to Thunderbird have got to do this. Let’s reveal Thunderbird’s true power in a classic side-scrollling shoot ‘em up! You’ve got to admit that it’d be pretty amusing blocking those task-related emails from your boss or blasting spam away (literally). Screenshot from Jets ‘n’ Guns
Email Sweeper
Those who really want to live on the edge may contemplate a game of mine sweeper, but how about we swap those mines for emails!? Noooooo.
Got more ideas? Perhaps an email that levels-up? Yikes. Let’s go!

I’m happy our chat back then brought about this hilarious post. If only tackling email was really that simple! I now may have dreams tonight of dropping nuclear bombs on my inbox, thanks to you
